This accessible course will tell the story of Britain and its peoples from the earliest times through the famous castles, cathedrals and monuments which witnessed the great events of our Island’s history as well as the more humble homes and workplaces which reflect the lives of the ordinary population. We will look at how local buildings in Wirral, Liverpool and Cheshire can illustrate broader national developments. The first term will cover the earliest times, Roman Britain, Saxons, Vikings and Normans and the later Middle Ages.
