Available Classes

Family History - Getting Started

* This course will introduce the beginner to family history research. We will learn how to find and troubleshoot, initially, the most common sources of evidence, such as birth, marriage and death records, working with the census, military, immigration/emigration records and dating your old photographs. We will explore the most beneficial internet sites available for family history research, together with how to prepare your own family tree. There will be a visit to Wirral Local Authority Archives, Birkenhead.

Advanced Steps in Genealogy

This course is ideal for those family historians seeking to advance their research skills and knowledge. Whilst re-visiting familiar topics such as BMD, social and military records, there will be a greater emphasis on how to use records to their fullest, examining records you will not have yet encountered and deciphering old handwriting. There will be more opportunity to discuss your 'brick walls' and gain advice from the tutor and your peer group, with visits to history venues.
