Learn how the study of ancient Egypt has progressed (the significant discoveries and key figures in her history), and how the current discipline is developing with modern scholarship. 
Term 1: Evolution of the discipline, nature of the evidence. Time line of ancient Egypt, map of key sites, what 'Egyptologists study', material culture (objects), archaeology and text (hieroglyphics, hieratic, demotic). How they do this - excavation, epigraphy and translation. Egypt in Antiquity, including the conquest by Alexander the Great, rule by the Ptolemies and the Romans. 
Field trips will give the chance to actually handle artefacts from ancient Egypt .

Unless otherwise stated, standard class times are as follows:

Morning: 10:00 - 12:00
Midday: 12:15 - 14:15
Afternoon: 14:30 - 16:30

How to book

It is currently not possible to book or make payments via this website. To do this you will need to contact the office (0151 645 0066).  We will help you with any details you require, and advise the availability of places on the courses or events.

Then you will need to come in to the office to complete enrolment forms and pay by card, cash or cheque (made payable to Wirral 3Ls).

We recommend you enquire as early as possible as places fill up very quickly. (Don't wait until term starts!)
